ilovelaw Inc. (“ilovelaw”, “us”, “we”, or “our”) owns and operates the ilovelaw website, www.ilovelaw.ca, www.jadoreledroit.ca and www.jadoreledroit.com (the “Website”).

ilovelaw respects the privacy of its Users (“you” or “your”) and has developed this Privacy Policy to demonstrate its commitment to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes the information we collect, how that information may be used, with whom it may be shared, and how it is protected.

This Privacy Policy is incorporated by reference in the Terms of Use (the “Agreement”). Unless otherwise defined in this Privacy Policy, capitalized terms used in this Privacy Policy have the same meanings as in the Agreement.

Please note that your use of the Website constitutes your agreement to follow and be bound by the terms of the Agreement and the Privacy Policy. If you object to anything in the Agreement or the Privacy Policy, do not use the Website.

By using, viewing or accessing the Website, you expressly consent to the collection, use and disclosure of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Further, whenever you provide information to ilovelaw or contact ilovelaw through other means, you consent to the collection, use and disclosure of that information in accordance with the provisions of this Privacy Policy.

2. Changes to the Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy is subject to change and may be updated by ilovelaw, at its sole discretion, from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on the Website and/or by any other method of notice we see fit, including by email.

Accordingly, please review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy will be effective immediately upon posting the amended privacy policy to the Website. If you do not accept the amendments, you are required to stop using the Website. Any use of the Website after posting will constitute acceptance of said amended privacy policy.

Should we make any significant changes to the way we collect, use, share, and protect your Personal Information, we will let you know by posting notices on our Website and by sending you an email explaining the change.

We collect different types of data (collectively, “Data”), described below, to provide and improve our Products, Services and our Website.

It does not include non-personal information like business information or generic information common to many individuals.

ilovelaw collects Personal Information only if you voluntarily choose to share such information with ilovelaw. In order to purchase and access Products and Services, however, we may require that you furnish Personal Information, for example, in the course of making payment for one or more Products or Services. When you do so, you authorize us to collect, access, manage and retain that information, which may include, but is not limited to:

  • your first and last name;
  • your e-mail address;
  • your billing address;
  • your mailing address;
  • your telephone number;
  • your credit card information;
  • your driver’s license number; and
  • your passport number.

We also collect, access, manage and retain data other than Personal Information. These other types of data, described below, do not permit direct association with any specific individual.

We may collect and retain information related to your use of and access to the Website (“Usage Data”). The following is a non-exhaustive list of the Usage Data which may be collected:

We do not intend to collect any personal data relating to your racial, ethnic, or religious denominations. Please do not at any time provide us with such information. In the event that we desire to process your Personal Information for any other purpose where we are not able to rely on any other legal basis for processing under applicable law, we will ask for your consent.

We reserve the right to process your data as necessary to comply with legal requirements which we may be subjected to, including cooperating with authorities upon due request and for accounting and tax requirements. Additionally, we reserve the right to process your data for any other purposes compatible with any of the purposes listed above.

We collect anonymous information from Users of our Website through the use of cookies.

We do not use cookies to collect Personal Information, only to carry out Website analytics and targeted advertising.

ilovelaw may collect, access, manage and retain Data, including Personal Information, for purposes such as to:

  • provide and maintain our Website;

  • allow you to participate in interactive features of our Website, when you chose to do so;
  • provide customer support and respond to your inquiries;
  • communicate with you;
  • display advertisements that are tailored to your inferred interests (online behavioural advertising);
  • administer promotions, when you provide your consent to be entered into such programs;
  • perform analyses or gather valuable information so that we can improve our Website;
  • monitor the usage of our Website;
  • provide Notary Services or Virtual Witnessing Services;
  • detect, prevent and address technical issues;
  • maintain data security and user privacy; and
  • understand your engagements with our advertising outside of our Website and the source(s) from which you were referred to our Website.

PERSONAL INFORMATION, INCLUDING IN AGGREGATE AND IN ANONYMIZED FORM, WILL NEVER BE SOLD OR OTHERWISE MONETIZED BY ILOVELAW.

E-mail Communications

One purpose for which we collect, access, manage and retain Data is to provide our electronic newsletter and/or otherwise communicate with you regarding new Products, new Services, promotions, etc. We will not send you any e-mails unless we have your express or implied consent to do so. For more information on what constitutes implied consent, see here. Your consent is voluntary, and you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of any of our e-mails, or by contacting us directly. It may take up to ten (10) days to remove you from our e-mail list thereafter. All e-mail campaigns conducted by us adhere to the requirements of Canada’s anti-spam legislation.

Third-Party Access to Personal Information

Your Personal Information may occasionally be disclosed to and used by contractors of ilovelaw if and when you purchase one or more Services. ilovelaw occasionally engages contractors, including lawyers, paralegals and commissioners for taking affidavits (the “Contractors”), to provide Services on behalf of ilovelaw. These Contractors are subject to the same obligations with respect to your Personal Information as is ilovelaw, are required to use the Personal Information only for the purpose of providing the Service(s) and have access to only the Personal Information required to do so.

7. Disclosure of Data

We reserve the right to use and disclose Personal Information to:

  • comply with applicable laws and regulations;
  • comply with governmental requests;
  • protect against legal liability;
  • prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with use of the Website or ilovelaw Content;
  • protect the personal safety of Users or the public; and
  • protect the rights and property of ilovelaw and its Users, sponsors, providers, or licensors.

If ilovelaw is legally compelled to disclose your Personal Information, it will only disclose the minimum amount necessary to meet our legal obligation.

8. Third-Party Links and Partners

We may need to share your information with third parties in the course of and/or for the purpose of receiving services from those third parties in connection with our Website, Products and/or Services, including, without limitation, digital advertising, cloud computing, data storage, financial services, payment processing, user authentication, and website hosting.

The Website may also contain hyperlinks or references to third party materials, partners or websites (collectively, “Third-Party Links”). Any such embedment, hyperlink or reference is provided for your convenience only. The display on the Website of any third-party website, or hyperlink or reference to any third-party website does not constitute an endorsement of such third party’s website or products. We have no control over Third-Party Links and accept no responsibility or liability for the manner in which these organizations operate, collect, use, disclose or secure and otherwise treat your Personal Information. Your use of Third-Party Links may be governed by the terms and conditions of that third-party site.

For example, we employ a third-party company to process payment and complete the purchase and sale of Products and Services. All data and information shared for the purpose of purchasing Products and Services is shared directly with the third-party and is subject to the privacy policy and the terms and conditions of that third-party.

We strongly advise you to read the terms and conditions and privacy policies of any third-party websites. ilovelaw expressly disclaims any liability, damage or loss, directly or indirectly, alleged or derived from providing Personal Information to any third-party websites. Further, Users hereby agree to hold ilovelaw harmless from any liability that may result from Users sharing their own Personal Information with third-party websites linked to or referenced within the Website.

9. Security of Data

ilovelaw utilizes standard security protocols and commonplace security mechanisms to secure your information from accidental loss and from unauthorized access, use, alteration or disclosure. However, the Internet is an open system, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized third parties will not be able to defeat those measures or use your Personal Information for improper purposes.

10. Data Transfer

In some cases, your Personal Information and data that we collect and manage may be transferred to, maintained on and processed by computers located outside of your state, province, country or other governmental jurisdiction where the data protection laws may differ than those from your jurisdiction.

Your consent to this Privacy Policy represents your agreement to that transfer.

11. Business Affiliates

ilovelaw reserves the right to transfer, sell or distribute all information collected through the Website to an affiliate, subsidiary, or third party in the event of any reorganization, merger, sale, joint venture, assignment, transfer or other disposition of all or part of our business, assets or stock.

We will use our best efforts to ensure that the new entity follows this Privacy Policy with respect to your Personal Information and to the extent required by applicable law.

12. Minors

We absolutely do not purposefully collect personal data from anyone under the age of 18. If you are a minor, you may use our Website only with the consent and involvement of a parent or guardian.

13. Updating and Deleting Your Data

You have the right to access and review your personal data, including Personal Information, that is stored by us/on our Website (“your Data”). You may request a copy of your Data by e-mail to info@ilovelaw.ca.

In certain situations, we may not be able to provide you with access to all the Personal Information stored by us about you. Where access to some of that information is denied, we will provide you with the reason why. For example, we may deny access to information that contains references to other individuals, information that cannot be disclosed for legal, security, or commercial proprietary reasons, and/or information that is subject to solicitor-client or litigation privilege.

Generally, Personal Information will generally be retained only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose(s) for which it was collected. Personal Information may be retained for a longer period (a) with your consent or (b) where required by law. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Personal Information will be retained for a minimum of 36 months or as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, whichever is shorter, and a maximum of ten (10) years (to comply with our legal obligations in certain limited instances).
