Religious divorce

A divorce that is recognized and granted according to the customs, traditions, or rules of a particular religion. It is separate from a civil divorce, granted by a court through civil law jurisdiction. In Ontario, only a civil divorce legally ends a marriage, while a religious divorce does not have legal standing under the court’s jurisdiction but may be required for religious purposes.
