Extraordinary expenses
While the term “extraordinary expenses” is sometimes used synonymously with “special expenses,” it usually refers to costs that are exceptional or above and beyond what is typically incurred in raising a child. These expenses may include unusually high costs for educational needs, a child’s medical condition requiring special treatment, or elite training for a sport or artistic pursuit. Since they are extraordinary, they may necessitate an in-depth review and sometimes require court approval to ensure they are justified and in the best interest of the child.
